Napoleon Washington, Jr. was born on April 12, 1948 in Fort Baker, California and peacefully passed at the age of 69 years on October 27, 2017 in Merced California where he was a resident for 56 years. He was the eldest child of Napoleon Washington, Sr. and Annie Dora Jones.
Napoleon previously lived in the San Francisco Bay Area where he got his primary education and relocated to Merced, California in 1961. He attended Merced High School graduating in 1966. He then went on to study at Merced Junior College where he attained his A.A., in Business Administration, he then attended Chapman University where he earned his B.A., in Social Science. A couple of years later he attained his M.S., in Human Resource Management also at Chapman University. He then went on to study at Trinity Southern University where he attained a Doctorate of Philosophy in Business Administration. He then attained his Doctor of Theology Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
His career in the insurance industry began in 1970 and spanned 47 years starting with Metropolitan Life Insurance and Farmers Insurance. He then established Napoleon Washington Jr. Insurance Agency as Owner and Insurance Broker.
Napoleon was very active in the community. He was the Former President of the Merced/Mariposa Life Underwriters Association, Former Director of North Merced Rotary Club, a member of the American Legion Post 83, a member of Merced County Jail Ministries, a member of the Merced City Parks and Recreation Commission, former President and Executive Board Member of the NAACP Branch 1047, Merced, California, he also served in various ministerial capacities throughout the state. He was a member of Christian Life Center, Merced, California, (NAIFA) National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He was a bible teacher for the Merced County Rescue Mission for many years.
Napoleon is preceded in death by his father Napoleon Washington, Sr., sisters’ Lucille Carter and Brenda Washington, maternal grandparents Rev. Joseph Jones and Susie Jones, and Paternal grandparents Ernest Washington and Elfredia Buchanan.
Napoleon is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nadine Reed Washington of Merced, California, mother Ann D. Carter of San Francisco, California, his children Gregory D. Washington of Phoenix, Arizona, Kimberlee Nadine Taylor (Steve) of Merced, California, and Geoffrey Napoleon Washington Sr. of Merced, California. He also leaves behind his beloved aunt Barbara Davis of Stockton, California, who nurtured him during his formative years. Brothers, Robert Walton, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Michael Washington of Las Vegas, Nevada, Johnny Carter Jr. of San Francisco, California, sisters Bertha Turnage of Bay Point, California, Martha Smith of San Bruno, California, Carrie Carter of San Francisco, California. As well as his six grandchildren Trinitty J. Booker, Jerrik D. Pipkin-Washington, Geoffrey Napoleon Washington, Jr., Valeria Armenta-Washinton, Kyan J. Washington, Isaiah S. Taylor. He also leaves two great-grandchildren Mya Marie Washington, and Braylee T. Washington, along with many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and clients.
There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, located at 1490 B Street, Merced, California. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Christian Life Center, 650 E Olive Ave, Merced, California. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 1480 B Street, Merced, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hinds Hospice, 410 W. Main St., Suite A., Merced, California or to Christian Life Center, P.O. Box 2545, Merced, California, 95344.
