Nancy Taggart Curry (1928-2022) was born in North Braddock, PA to Dr. Milo and Frances Gwosden. Nancy passed away October 15 in Merced, CA. She was artistic and excelled in school, graduating as the sole Valedictorian from Scott High School in North Braddock, PA. Nancy attended Pennsylvania College for Women (PCW) in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was active in Student Government, French Club (she spoke like a native), and was lead in her class play her Senior year. She was voted the outstanding student by the student body, and she was Valedictorian and Charm Girl. The Chair of the History Department praised her excellent work on her senior project, "The Influence of Peace Groups on American Foreign Department Policy Since 1900", and she was offered a Fellowship in the graduate school of History at the University of Chicago. After visiting a Fresno State outdoor summer school at Huntington Lake with her aunts, she met Ben Curry of Le Grand, CA who pursued her cross country for five years. A true love story, Nancy and Ben were married in Dinuba, CA where Ben began his law practice, and Nancy taught 4th grade. Relocating later to Le Grand and then Merced, CA, Nancy taught at Charles Wright Elementary School. Nancy was strong in her Christian faith and attended Central Presbyterian Church where she positively impacted numerous people as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and coordinator of the Prayer Chain for many years. She was a member of AAUW, active in the Hospital Assistance League and in PTA when her children were young. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, parents and brother Milo Gwosden, Jr. of Palo Alto. She is survived by her children, Pattee Russell-Curry (John) and Thomas M. Curry both of Merced, grandchildren Jason (Carrie) of Portland, OR, Jesse of Merced, and Keddy Russell-Curry of San Diego, CA; seven great grandchildren, sister-in-law Carlota Gwosden, two nieces and two nephews, and their families. She dearly loved her family, and they love her. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday October 28 at Central Presbyterian Church in Merced. Interment will be private at Plainsburg Cemetery, Plainsburg, CA. Donations to Central Presbyterian Church of Merced, the Salvation Army of Merced and/or Alpha Pregnancy Help Center of Merced made in memory of Nancy Curry will be appreciated by the family.
