Marina Gloria Hoag, born Marina Gloria Maggiore on a Monday in Kingston, New York on August 31, 1936 to Vincenzo and Marina (Ferlazzo) Maggiore. Marina was the 10th child and 4th sister. She graduated from Kingston High School on Monday June 28, 1954. While on a ski trip she met Charles Curtis Hoag Jr of Poughkeepsie New York. They married at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston on Friday January 25, 1957. Marina gave birth to Sandra Marie Hoag in 1961, Linda Jean Hoag in 1962, Charles Curtis Hoag III in 1964, Michael David Hoag in 1965 and Marina Helen Hoag in 1975. She took an active role in her children’s lives. While raising her children, she went back to school to finish her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Marina began nursing school at Modesto Junior College and became a LVN. She began working for Mercy Hospital in 1970. Marina became a Registered Nurse in 1977 and remained at Mercy Hospital for 38+ years where she retired in 2009. Marina enjoyed playing cards, reading, collecting Beanie Babies, and spending time with her family, and sporting around town in her “HOT GRAM” Corvette (which matched her husbands). She had a huge heart and helped everyone achieve their dreams or pointed them in the right direction. She loved and spoiled her 5 kids, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. During her lifetime, she went on many adventures. Marina and Charles visited Hawaii in 2007 for their 50th anniversary and in 2013, she visited the Vatican. A favorite spot she enjoyed with her husband as well was Monterey and Carmel. They had an amazing 60 year marriage.
Marina was preceded in death by her parents Vincenzo and Marina, her brothers Vincent, Angelo, Anthony, Paulie, and her sister Jenny. Sisters in law Marian Maggiore, Delores Maggiore, Jean (Albert) Maggiore, Jean (Paulie) Maggiore, and Brothers in law Joseph Amato and Hobart Bach.
She is survived by her husband Charles Curtis Hoag Jr, children Sandra Marie (Ray) Mays, Linda Jean (James) Morrison, Charles Curtis (Deborah) Hoag, Michael David (Lynda) Hoag and Marina Helen (Paul) Lyon. She is also survived by her siblings Albert Maggiore, Rose Amato, Gilda Bach, and Robert (Suzie) Maggiore
She leaves behind grandchildren Charles Allen (Julie) Nebenfuhr, Angie (Jasper) Valero, Amber (Rudy) Mays, Michael (Racheal) Mays, Jennilee (Justin) Morrison, Jamie (Ross) Morrison, Jaydyn (Tyler) Morrison, Landon Morrison, David (Hannah) Hoag, Michelle Hoag, Mitchell Hoag, Matthew Hoag, Brittany (Hailey) Lyon, Vincent (Rachel) Lyon, Austin Lyon and great grandchildren.
Marina enjoyed a wonderful life and passed her legacy on to her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 16th 2017 from 3:00p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street Merced, California 95341
Vigil Service with Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday November 17th, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 671 East Yosemite Avenue Merced, California 95340. A reception will follow the Mass at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
