John Jess Ortega

John Jess Ortega was born on March 28, 1934 in Colorado. He passed away on July 23, 2013 in his Merced home surrounded by his loving family. John proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and was a talented and experienced jet mechanic who could fix anything. John had a inpeccable memory and captivated everyone with his vibrant and detailed stories of his life experiences. He was a devoted family man and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was and still is an inspiration and hero to them all. Eveyone adored and loved him deeply.

John was a charismatic, generous and compassionate man who touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. No words can ever express the depth of sorrow we carry in our hearts at the loss of such an extraordinary man.

John is survived by his daughter, Debora, Tammy, and Yvonne; sons, John, Robert, and Luis; and fifty-two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marcelina Arceo and son Raymond.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
