Joel Dean Richards

He was a proud graduate of Merced High School in 1980. He embraced his spiritual journey being baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost on December 9, 1981, at Apostolic Tabernacle.

After meeting Anita through his late son, SSG Frank Gasper, Joel took on the loving role of father to Frank and Victoria. He and Anita were married January 16, 1999, cherishing 26 years of marriage. Joel's love for his family was profound and enduring.

Professionally, Joel was a skilled small-engine mechanic for over 25 years. His work ethic led him to Bimbo Bakeries, retiring as a merchandiser in 2023 after being diagnosed with cancer. Joel remained resilient, embodying a positive outlook inspiring those around him. Facing cancer, he remained a testament to the power of faith, sharing his message of hope and love in Jesus Christ with everyone.

As a Gold Star Father, Joel's heart was devoted to honoring the memory of his son, Frank, killed while serving in the US Army. Alongside Anita, he helped organize “Run for the Fallen” in Merced County for nine years - a tribute highlighting his commitment to family and community.

Joel's love for adventure was evident in his travels, cherishing trips to Morro Bay and a memorable journey to New Zealand in 2023 for his niece's wedding.

Survived by: wife Anita Richards, Planada, CA; daughter Victoria Beuerlein, Orlando, Florida; father Robert Richards; brother Bart Richards, Merced, CA; sister Kristi Caseri, Counncil, Idaho. Preceded in death by: mother Gloria Richards; grandparents Jack and Pat Richards, Noble and Marie Fuller; son Frank Gasper.

Celebration of Life: May 31, 2025, 11 a.m., Apostolic Tabernacle Church, 2745 E. Hwy 140, Merced. Flowers may be sent to church.
