JoAnn Cates

JoAnn Cates (Taylor) was born on May 19, 1935 in Enid, Oklahoma. JoAnn passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on June 29, 2023. She lived in Ceres for 43 years and in Merced for 10 months. JoAnn was a cook for a convalescent hospital. JoAnn is survived by her children Vivian Vieselmeyer (Bill), Debra Marsh (Gary), Cheryl Derrick (Wayne), Robbie Clifton (Karon) and Tammy King (Brad), 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death her husband Robert V. Clifton, husband Damon W. Cates, parents, two sisters and two brothers and her great grandchild Zoey Rose Vieselmeyer. JoAnn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved going on outings with her daughters, making cookies for others and she had a great sense of humor, making us laugh often. JoAnn enjoyed going on walks and at 73, she completed a 10k with her daughter and two of her granddaughters. She will be remembered for crocheting baby blankets and making sock monkeys for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. She will forever be in our hearts.
