Jackie was a lifelong resident of Merced County. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed as a library page, a dental assistant and eventually a school secretary. Jackie retired from Weaver School in 2015, after 27 years of service. She enjoyed being a homemaker, learning from her mother how to be an excellent cook, baker and quilter. Old black-and-white TV reruns like Gunsmoke and Combat reminded her of her beloved dad, Jack Smart, a WWII veteran. Jackie and her dad shared a love of baseball. Lifelong San Francisco Giants fans, they occasionally attended Giants games together. Jackie looked forward to watching the Little League World Series every year.
As a member of United Methodist Church of Merced, Jackie volunteered her time in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the choir, bell choir, leadership council, United Methodist Women (UMW), and Food Pantry. Jackie found joy in giving a lifetime of cheerful service to her Lord, her family, friends, extended church family and the community.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Evelyn Smart. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Daniel Mayo of Atwater; a brother, Stephen Smart of Reno, Nevada; a daughter, Leslie Rauwendaal and her husband Randy of Larkspur, Colorado; a beloved granddaughter, Jane Rauwendaal, and two beloved grandsons, Austen and Anders Rauwendaal.
