Jack was born June 26, 1942 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Joe and Mildred McCabe. Soon after, Jack and his family moved to California. Jack attended schools in Modesto. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at San Francisco State.
Jack served in the Army Corp of Engineers. He taught at San Francisco State University, College of San Mateo and was an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco. In 1968 he accepted a position at Merced College where he was a professor of psychology for 35 years.
During his tenure, Jack was also elected as Trustee of Merced City School District for two terms, serving as chairman for four years.
Sports were an important part of Jack's life. He ran several marathons and climbed many mountains in the US, Europe, South America and Africa, including Denali (Mt McKinley) Mt Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro. He also enjoyed tennis and skiing. Jack was head coach of men’s tennis at Merced College for twelve years. After retiring, he was an assistant football coach in youth football, and at Golden Valley and Buhach Colony High Schools for over 10 years.
Jack met Janet Fujimoto of Morgan Hill at a conference. They were married for 42 years. Jack was a longtime fan of the SF Giants and 49ers. He attended two Super Bowl Games.
Jack is survived by his wife, Janet and son, James: "the joys of my life." He also leaves behind his sister Sherrill (Jack) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
