Helen Mary Romo

Helen Mary Romo, age 97, a native of Merced, California passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021. Helen was born January 15, 1924, she was the oldest of 10 children. She attended John Muir Elementary School and Merced High School. Helen loved to dance at the local dances held at the Merced Veterans Hall on 17th Street, where she met Gamaliel (Gabe) Carlo Romo. They were married on December 2, 1941. Their marriage lasted 57 years.

Gabe and Helen were proprietors of G.C. Romo Tax and Bookkeeping Services, which they opened together in 1958. They also did immigration and naturalization services. When her husband had a stroke in 1992. Helen continued the business until his death in 1998.

Helen was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mercy/Saint Patrick's Catholic Parishes. In the early 1960's, she was also a member of the Merced Republican Women's' Committee. She and Gabe attended many political events together.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Gabe Romo; her sisters, Frances Medina, Alice Perez and Ruby Lopez; brothers, Albert Medina and Sal Medina. She is survived by her sister Dolores Sandoval of Modesto and brothers, Edward Medina of Snelling, Ronnie Miranda of Merced and Anthony

Miranda of Fresno. She is also survived by her daughters, Rosemary Romo Gabriault, Dalinda Kalember and son, Gabe Romo Jr., as well as 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, services will be private.
