Grace Yeaden Dahl Foster was born on October 24, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pa. The youngest of 4 girls. As a baby she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and spent most of the first 12 years of her life in and out of TB Sanitariums. At about age 14 she was declared as an arrested case. Her many years around medical facilities led her to go into Nurses training. After World War II, her family moved to Wakefield, MA. At a Block Dance for WWII Veterans, she met her husband to be in June 1946 (William H. Foster). They were married on March 23, 1947. They have a son Stephen M. Foster of Merced, CA. Her husband chose Military Service as a career. She enjoyed the travel and moving during the next 27 years. She enjoyed the duties of the wife of a Flying Crew member, Staff Officer and later as an Organizational Commander. As young girls, Grace and her 3 sisters were a singing group. Grace has sung in Church Choirs and Chorals for over 50 years. She was member of the Merced College Choral for 35 years. Grace served as an Altar Guild Member and Diocesans Altar Guild Training Chairman and Lay Minister in the Anglican Church (formerly Episcopal) Diocese of Fresno. She cared for and enjoyed the company of her father-in-law for the last nine years of his life. After her husband’s retirement for the US Air Force, he became involved with support of the Shriners Hospital for Children and the International Association Legion of Honor. For 17 years she traveled with him to the Hospitals over North America. Grace taught herself to play the organ in 1962 and has played for her own enjoyment since. She was very active in her flower garden and other yard work. She enjoyed cooking and playing Bridge. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who had concern for the welfare of others. May her soul rest in peace.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street Merced, California 95341. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church located at 459 West 21st Street Merced, California 95340 with a reception to follow at Merced Golf & Country Club located at 6333 Golf Road, Merced, California 95340. Interment will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
