Don was a long time resident of Merced California for 41 years. Surrounded by his loving family, Don passed away on October 23, 2018 at his home in Merced, California.
Don proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1961. In the 1960's, Don was a Deacon for the Presbyterian Church in Salinas, California. Don moved his family to Merced in 1977. Don was a well known and respected Agronomist and Agricultural Sales representative for more than 50 years. Don previously taught Ag Science at Merced College in the 1980's. Don worked for A.L. Gilbert and Lockwood Seed and Grain up until his death. Don worked closely with several Ranchers and Farmers throughout the western United States and the CA central valley. Don continued to make sales calls and consulted with the agricultural community until he could no longer physically do it just a few days prior to his death. Don was an accomplished small aircraft pilot and also participated with the Pony Express as an XP Rider.
Don is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Marie Coburn of 56 years. Don also leaves behind his daughter Liz (Jeff) Hughes; son Jeff (Elena) Coburn; sister Barbara (Bob) Turk; and his three grandchildren Elena, Stephanie and Joshua. Don was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, grandfather and friend. Don loved his family very much and will be missed dearly. Don also leaves behind to cherish his memory many more family members and many friends. Don was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Elmer "Russ" and Elizabeth "Betty" Coburn.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday October, 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bear Creek Community Church located at 1717 E. Olive Ave. Merced, California.
