Alice Sue Ehrmantraut peacefully left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior, June 13, 2013. She was born August 10, 1926 to Etalee and Frank Ehrmantraut in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the youngest of four siblings. She attended schools there and after graduating from high school she attended a secretarial school. She was hired by Farmers Insurance Group in Indianapolis. Alice’s family had moved to Merced and in 1947 she decided to transfer to the Farmers Insurance Regional Office in Merced to be close to her family. She retired from Farmers in 1990 after 38 ½ years. Alice was an active member of a local Toastmasters’ club and TOPS.
Alice always loved school and learning. She achieved an AA degree from Merced College in General Education and Early Childhood Development. She also studied Sign Language.
Her hobbies were traveling, volunteer work, church camp and reading. She also loved watching Perry Mason reruns, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She traveled all over the US including Alaska and Hawaii plus trips to Israel and Jordan.
Even though Alice did not marry, she dearly loved children and considered her nieces, nephews and the little ones at church her children. She will always be remembered for her caring love for them and greatly missed by all.
Alice was a person with a great personality, high morals and a deep devotion to Christ. She also had about her kindheartedness, a good sense of humor and love for her family and church members. As one of her friends once wrote “she was known as one of the busiest people ever. It was said her quick moves could only be matched by her dedication and enthusiasm to her life as a Christian. Could it be that her “speed” came from being born a short distance from the Indianapolis Speedway….. maybe she should have been called Indy Alice!”
In 1950 she was the second person to be baptized in what is now the Church of Christ on Yosemite Parkway and was known as a true and faithful Christian to the end of her days.
