Gerald “Jerry” M. Hauser, age 83, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton due to complications of pneumonia. On May 16, 1928, Jerry was born the son of the late Anton and Theresa (Koehler) Hauser. He was united in marriage to Helen Weiland Podrzay on August 21, 1954 at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton; she preceded him in death on October 17, 2010. Jerry spent four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He was employed at Marathon Corp. and American Can Co. for 42 years and retired in 1988. In his retirement, Jerry and Helen spent many happy summers at Loon Lake in Shawano. They would play card games, especially Sheepshead with their family and friends. Jerry also did a lot of volunteer work with the Visiting Nurses Association and tutored second grade students in reading and math. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of the Y-Nots and the St. Paul Villa Choir. Jerry loved to read and enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs. Jerry always put others first and had great pride in being a grandfather.
Jerry will be missed by his loving children: Cynthia (Ken) Priest, Mary (Terry) Cochran, Tony (Jane) Hauser, and Jon (Noelle) Hauser; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren;
He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Lucille Porto and Helene Hauser.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Paul Villa Chapel, 316 E. 14th Street, Kaukauna. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the hour of the service at the chapel. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial will be established.
Jerry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the St. Paul Villa caregivers and staff for making him feel at home for the past year and a half.
