A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at City Church, 8200 Macon Rd, Memphis, TN 38018.
A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
Dr. William Warren Jones was born in the Douglas Community of Memphis, Tennessee on July 26, 1942, to Lymus Jones Sr. and Beatrice Plummer Jones. William was the eighth child of nine children.
William graduated from Douglas High School in 1959 then proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee State University in 1965. That same year, he became the first Black Engineer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District. In 1973, William became the Chief Manager of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), where he faithfully served for thirty years.
William answered his call to the Ministry of Jesus Christ in October of 1976. Afterwards, he earned a Master’s Degree in Religion in 1984, a Master’s Degree in Counseling in 1987 and a Doctorate in Ministry in 1996.
William retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after thirty-seven years of service. During his service, William earned the highest performance rating possible in his annual reviews for twenty-nine of those years.
As a Minister he served as Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Millington, Tennessee for six years. Later, he became the pastor of Canaan Baptist Church in Covington, Tennessee where he served for twenty-four years before retiring.
