William David Hardy, age 87, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away suddenly at his home on February 9, 2021 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorman and Estelle Hardy; brother. John Hardy; sister, Dorothy Hardy Warren; and wife of 59 years, Margaret Ann Reed Hardy.
After finishing school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the 196th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean War. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
After the war, he moved to Memphis and worked at Reed Brothers Dairy as a delivery driver where he met his wife Margaret Ann Reed Hardy. David later joined MLG&W where he enjoyed a 25-year plus career as a lead automotive mechanic before retiring in 1987.
David was a 67-year member of Central Church in Collierville, Tennessee.
David loved riding his Sea Doo (aka The Pony) at Pickwick Lake, never met a stranger, always willing to help anyone, was a true gentleman, an encourager, and above all a man who loved and served his Savior Jesus and his family.
David is survived by his current wife of 4½ years, Sue Pittman Hardy; sister, Marianne Hardy Schadrack; son, David Logan Hardy (Joanne) of Savannah, Tennessee; daughter, Doris Ann Hardy Rhodes (Mike) of Tequesta, Florida; daughter, Heather Hardy Erickson (Mark) of Collierville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, William Jason Hardy (Kelly) of South Pittsburg, Tennessee and Melissa Marie Hardy Loveall (Landon) of Columbia, Tennessee; and four great-grandchildren, Dakota Marie Rowland (19), Athena Marie Loveall (10), Brooksley Eleanor Loveall (8), and Ethan Amos Loveall (6).
Visitation will be held on Friday, February at 11:00 AM and celebration of life services will follow at 12:30 PM, all at Central Church. The funeral service will be livestreamed (see below--click JOIN LIVESTREAM).
Interment will follow at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery.
