WILLIAM HALL “Bill” HEFLEY, 92, passed away on January 30, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born March 26, 1918 in Chatham, Louisiana to James Henry and Emma Conley Hefley. At a young age, he moved to Jackson, TN, where he lived until the latter years of his life. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1938, where he played left tackle on the 1938 State Championship football team and was nicknamed “Lightening.” After graduation from high school, he attended Union University. In 1940, he married Ernestine Randolph, who preceded him in death in 1997 after 57 years of marriage. He retired from BellSouth Telephone Company in 1980 after 40 years of service and was known to his co-workers as “Red” Hefley. While in Jackson, he was a member and deacon at First Christian Church. Upon moving to Memphis, he joined Bellevue Baptist Church and was active in the Yokefellows Sunday School Class. He is survived by his two daughters, Amy and Jennifer Hefley of Memphis; sisters-in-law, Frances Hefley of Nashville, TN and Margaret Randolph of Miami Springs, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved brothers, James Warmath Hefley, Philip Madison Hefley and Robert Maxwell Hefley; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emily and Bobby Sykes. Services will be held Friday, February 4 in the chapel of Bellevue Baptist Church at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, TN. The family requests that any memorials be made to Bellevue Baptist Church.
