Wayne L. Smith, Sr.

Wayne L. Smith, Sr., 78, of Collierville, passed away into the presence of his Lord on Friday, July 22nd, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.T. and Gunetta Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Norma Babb Smith, three children, Carol Smith Morgan and her husband Ben Morgan, Delaine Smith and Wayne L. Smith, Jr. and his wife Ali Novak Smith, six grandchildren, Daniel Morgan and his wife Laura Morgan, Lindsey Hewes and her husband Nate Hewes, Adam Morgan, Spencer Smith, Juliana Smith and Stephen Smith, two great-grandchildren, Jackson Hewes and James Morgan, a sister, Carolyn Parrish and her husband Ted Parrish and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was a member of Bethel, Highland Heights and Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Churches before joining First Evangelical Church where he was a member for the last 35 years. In 1983, he founded Smith-Doyle Contractors, Inc. and was president until he retired in 2014. He had been employed by S & W Construction Company, Inc. for over 20 years rising to the position of President. His education includes a Bachelor and Masters of Science from The University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Mr. Smith formerly served on the Board of Directors of the West Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Memphis Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Ministry to Men Foundation, Inc. Mr. Smith was also a managing director in partnering with Spirit Architecture Group L.L.C. to create the innovative design build firm SouthBuild TEAM L.L.C. The family cordially invites friends and relatives to gather and share remembrances of Mr. Smith from eleven o’clock in the morning to one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday the 26th of July at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Blvd in Memphis. Immediately following, the funeral will be conducted by Doctor Cole Huffman. The Rite of Committal is to follow privately at Bethel Cemetery in Atoka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to First Evangelical Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
