Dr. Sidney B. Johnson, III

Dr. Sidney Bruce Johnson III, 72 passed away on July 24, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong Memphian, Sidney graduated from Whitehaven High School. He also earned bachelor and master’s degree in business from the University of Memphis and a doctorate in business administration from Mississippi State University. Sidney was a certified public accountant and spent his career in private practice and as an accounting professor at Christian Brothers University, the University of Memphis, Arkansas State University, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Johnson; his two children Eric Johnson and Shelley Johnson Carroll; mother Dorothy Day; sister Carole Ann Groves; and grandchildren Alex and Audrey Carroll. Sidney will be greatly missed by his family, friends, clients, and students. We will remember his perseverance, hard work, willingness to help those in need, and his big laugh. Services will be held Thursday, July 28 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Poplar Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Memorial Service following at 11:00.
