Russell Gordon Vollmer, Sr., 70, of Collierville, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 20, 2012, after a short battle with cancer. Russell was a faithful member of Collierville First Baptist Church, lifetime M Club Member, Memphis State Hall of Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, and Memphis Amateur Hall of Fame. He was born on March 2, 1942 to Robert and Dorothy Vollmer, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Bob. He is survived by his sweetheart of 45 years, Loretta Vollmer; daughters, Tiffany Vollmer and Shannon Vollmer Hendrix; son, Rusty Vollmer; nine grandchildren; and his brother, Richard Vollmer. Visitation will be from 9 am until 11 am on Thursday, August 23, with funeral services following at 11 am, all at Collierville First Baptist Church.
