He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was an executive chauffeur for AT&T. He enjoyed golfing, body surfing, and SCUBA diving. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to body surf during their regular family beach vacations. He took up SCUBA diving later in life with his surviving son and earned deep water certification at age 60.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marylou Albers Whitaker; son, Michael Robert Whitaker (Ashley); grandchildren, Claire Marie Whitaker, John Robert Whitaker, Michael Francis Whitaker, Jackson Joseph Whitaker, and Ryan Michael Whitaker; and sister, Marilyn Kane.
He was preceded in death by three children, Johnlynn Marie Whitaker, Joseph Robert Whitaker, and Robert Michael Whitaker.
He was the best husband and an amazing father and grandfather.
