Robert (Bob) Charles Oliver II of Memphis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Bob was born on February 24, 1935, to Robert Charles Oliver and Audie McAuliffe in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Bob was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. After high school, Bob joined the Air Force where he was an aviation mechanic and played on the armed forces baseball team. Bob also received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Memphis Academy of Art and studied Fine Arts at The University of California at Berkley. Bob worked at Holiday Inn early in his career in the art department with his dear friend Charles Turner. He was also one of the original employees of Federal Express where he worked for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Frances Jones Oliver. He is survived by his son Steven Clay Dennington, his daughter Kef Tamara Howard (Brian) and his son Lance Keisa Oliver (Tammy) and grandchildren Alexander Walker, Lily Rose Oliver, Carson Alyse Howard, Connor Brian Howard, Luke Robert Oliver, Coryn Frances Howard and Jack Sawyer Oliver
Bob was a dear friend to so many and lived his life with an artistic view of the world. Whether he was throwing pots in the backyard in his studio or drawing pen and inks, he always looked at the world as a canvas to be appreciated and adored. He never sought attention and always acknowledged family and friends with compliments and a joyous spirit.
Bob’s favorite bible verses that he lived by and were spoken at his wife Fran’s funeral. Philippians 4:5-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guide your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.”
Bob will be laid to rest with his wife at Memphis Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be given in his name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
