“Dr. Bob” moved to Memphis and began a teaching career. He taught for 38 years at Memphis Harding Academy. He was a member of the church of Christ. He worked part time as a preacher and song leader. He spent many years working with the youth of the church. He did several mission trips to Mexico and Africa where he preached the word of God and worked in the clinics as an EMT. He volunteered with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Division where he became an EMT and taught first responder classes. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for several years.
He was preceded in death by his father, William McConnell, his mother Mary Ashburn, and his wife, Naomi “Doris” McConnell.
He is survived by his three sons Daryl McConnell (Michelle), Haryl McConnell (Laurie), and Daren McConnell (Shannon), his brother Billy (Maxey), and his sister Jane (Denny). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a funeral service Saturday, April 22, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM. A committal service will occur that afternoon at approximately 3:00 PM at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 609 S. Maple Street, Lebanon, TN 37087.
