Ricky Rogers was born to Howard Eddings Sr. and Beatrice Rogers Eddings on April 4, 1960, in Memphis, TN. Ricky grew up in Orange Mound and graduated from Melrose High School, majoring in JROTC, where he reached the highest cadet rank possible of Battalion Commander. Enlisting in the military during his senior year of high school, Ricky enlisted in the United States Marine Corp soon after graduating. He excelled as a Marine and was chosen to be on The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon where he performed before hundreds of dignitaries during his three years of active duty.
After an honorable discharge, Ricky returned to civilian life in Memphis. He pursued several career opportunities, but notably secured a position with the City of Memphis Fire Department, becoming one of the youngest persons ever to rise to the rank of lieutenant. Ricky was a dedicated fireman who took tremendous pride his responsibilities as a first responder.
After leaving the fire department Ricky tried his hand at numerous jobs (including managing retail sales at Bluff City Fish Market) before landing a “second chance” career opportunity with Barnhart Crane and Rigging. Ricky started as an apprentice and exceeded expectations by moving up through the company’s rank, securing numerous certifications, getting a class A Commercial Driver’s License, eventually becoming an operator engineer. Ricky was responsible for one of the most expensive and complicated cranes in the world. He was a valued member of Barnhart’s Project Equipment Group.
An avid outdoorsman, Ricky took to hunting and fishing as teenager. One of the greatest seasons in his life was when he used to regularly “go out to the country” to hunt and fish with his older brother Willet and friends. A follower of Jesus, a cherished son, a brother, a dad, an uncle, a cousin, and a friend, Ricky loved well and was well loved.
On Friday morning, September 15, 2023, Ricky Rogers passed away. He leaves to grieve his passing and cherish his memory a host of family and friends.
