Rebecca Rose Mathew, age 50, of Germantown, TN, passed away on December 20, 2023, after a bravely fought battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on December 15, 1973, in Knoxville, TN, to the late Franklin Kelly and Rosie Gibson.
Rebecca was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Everyone who knew her describes her as smart, kind, humble, and gentle. She was a natural caretaker and loving wife, a devoted sister, and a loyal friend to many across the world.
She was a devout believer in Yeshua and felt passionately about helping others learn about the promise of salvation. She ministered to others not only with her knowledge of the Bible but also with her actions. She had many spiritual children that she taught along the way.
In her free time, Rebecca cherished moments spent with her family, especially playing with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed traveling, crafting, and singing karaoke.
Rebecca had a passion for education and obtained her higher education at the University of Memphis. She also found solace and community in her worship at B'rit Hadasha Messianic Jewish Synagogue where she and her husband were members since 2002. She was an elder’s wife at the synagogue.
Rebecca leaves behind a loving family, including her husband of 26 years John Mathew, her stepson William Mathew and daughter-in-law Ashley Mathew, her beloved dog Emma, her brother Daniel Kelly and sister-in-law Ann Kelly, her sister Deborah Kelly, her sister Mary Edwards and brother-in-law David Edwards, her lifelong friend Charles (Chuck) Walker, and her nieces and nephews Jessalyn Guyette (Zack), Andrew Womack, Grace Summers, Elena Edwards, and Jonah Sauls.
She was preceded in death by her father Franklin Kelly, mother Rosie Gibson, mother-in-law Mary Abraham, and nephew Brian Womack.
Rebecca will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her loss is profound, but she will remain in the hearts and minds of her family and friends until we are together again
