Randy Carol Davis, age 70, passed away at his home in Collierville, TN on November 22, 2018. He was born in Langley, AR on September 29th, 1948. He is survived by a daughter, Jessica Davis, of Bartlett, TN, a son, Ryan Davis, of Collierville, TN, and his sister, Dorothy Arivett of Langley, AR. He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends, including former spouse and mother of his children, Cynthia Svoboda of Bartlett, TN. Randy had 5 grandchildren Ashton, 16, Noah, 15, Jenna, 9, Ellie, 7 and Brayden, 6. He was preceded in death by both his mother and father, Iva Nora and W.O. Davis of Langley, AR.
He spent childhood in his small hometown of Langley; playing with cousins that were like best friends, swimming in the Little Missouri River and helping parents take care of the family land. In 1969, Randy went to Vietnam, where he served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service to our country. Randy lived with family in AR, operating a dental lab business until his move to Memphis, TN in the mid 90s. His children lived there and it was always important for him to be close to them.
He was a loving father that developed even deeper relationships with his kids as they grew into adulthood and started their own families. Randy's life was marked by being a grandfather, more affectionately known as "Poppa" and "Train Papaw". He could be quoted regarding being present during the birth of his first grandson, Ashton, as "one of the happiest moments of my life and I will never forget it". All of his grandchildren had a special place in the heart of this man: ever present father, loving grandfather, fierce brother in arms, and true friend. We will miss you and cannot wait until we see you again, worshiping God in glory around the throne.
Services for Randy are as follows:
Visitation, Monday, December 3, 2018, 5-7pm at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN 38017.
Randy will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11AM at West TN Veteran's Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125.
