"Phung Van Le, born in the 1930s, served as a Major in South Vietnam military from early 1960s to April 1975. After the war, he was a prisoner of the war (POW) for almost 10 years, and sent to multiple re-education camps from North to South Vietnam. In 1986, seeking a brighter future for his family, he escaped Vietnam by boat. The U.S. accepted him as a refugee, and his family joined him in 1992.
Despite the many hardships he faced, Mr. Le worked tirelessly to provide his children with greater opportunities. He was a man of quiet strength. Neither war, prison, heart attacks, nor asthma could defeat him, but eventually, time did.
He is survived by his wife (Mai Huynh Nguyen), three sons (Tong, Van, Huy), three daughters (Truc, Phuong, Yen), nine grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. His legacy of love, sacrifice, and resilience will always be remembered by his family".
A visitation for Phung will be held Friday, September 27, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122.
