Born January 8, 1930 transitioned to glory on September 25, 2023
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Wade Bruen Mobley, her mother Mozelle Rivers Brasfield Mobley, and her husband, David Carl Rogers. She is survived by her children, David Wade Rogers and daughter-in-law Faye, Dianne Rogers Dixon and son-in-law Gary, Susan Rogers Colwell and son-in-law Clark, Shannon Dee Rogers Pryor and son-in-law Keith. Four grandchildren: Marion Faye Doherty (JD Doherty), Samuel Rene’ Rogers (Tristia Garrity), Drew Holt Franks (Patrick Franks), Erin Taylor Miller (Austin Miller), Tucker Rogers Pryor. And five great grandchildren: Katherine Faye Rogers (Kit), Wesley Leighton Miller, Jessie Rose Garrity, Barron Dwain Franks, and Christopher Lua Miller.
While she was an only child she was a part of a big family, both through the Williams/Rogers family of her husbands and also the large extended Burrus family of her mother. Where she wore the name Brasfield with great pride.
Mary Ann was first and foremost a wife and mother putting her husband, children, grand/great children above all else and then she was a friend to so many people it would be too hard to even count. Of course she had her closest friends but she exuded a love for all people that everyone who knew her, knew they were loved by her. In the midst of her life she was thoroughly a child of God, and a woman of strong faith. Early every morning you could find her sitting on the living room couch reading and studying the scripture; whether for a morning devotional, or in preparation for Sunday School or her weekly Bible Study with friends. She was always in pursuit of a stronger relationship with God and others.
Mary Ann grew up in Hickman Ky, where she met, fell in love, and married David Carl Rogers on January 14th, 1950 after a 3 year engagement. The day after they married they moved to Memphis to start their family and begin a wonderful life together that lasted 59 years. They also nurtured their family through the close knit community they found at St Stephen. Here they raised their children, developed friendships, studied the scriptures, and served the Lord. She made St. Stephen for her family a home away from home. Mary Ann also volunteered her time as a youth counselor over the years, touching the lives of so many young people, youth counselors, and youth leaders who considered her as a second mom and trusted friend.
Her influence as a friend and co-worker was also felt at the Baptist Hospital where she was Histologist until her retirement in December of 1992. A job she loved but remained faithful to because it allowed her to work a few days a week and still have plenty of time for a life outside of work.
She loved God, family, friends, birds, and pets. Her highest goal was to keep people connected and to feel loved. She is a woman who was open, vulnerable, and willing to share all of herself with any and everyone who would listen. She was also very independent and even stubborn up until her very last day to grace our presence in this life.
