Mary Jane Melton, 100 years old, died at her home in Memphis, Tennessee on January 22, 2012. Funeral services will be on Tuesday beginning at 2PM at Mullins United Methodist Church, 4 N Mendenhall Rd, Memphis, TN 38117-2698. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and Dr. Brad Gabriel will be the officient. Mrs. Melton was born in Carbondale, Illinois on April 25, 1911 to Mr. & Mrs. Dallas Winchester. In her working years, she was a Vice President for Vanda Beauty Counselors of where she later retired. Mrs. Melton joined Mullins United Methodist Church in 1957. She was the oldest and longest current member of the congregation. There she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and leader of the Monday prayer group of her circle of the United Methodist Women’s Club. She also was the treasurer of that circle and was recognized for being able to collect 110% of her pledges annually. She was active in the church until 2010 and could even drive herself there until 1996 when she was 94 years old. Mary Jane was also a member of the Poplar East Optimist Club. Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herbert Holloway Melton and sister Evelyn Mae Kennedy. She is survived by her daughter Jane E. Cannon of Memphis; granddaughters Beth Babb (Greg) of Bartlett, TN, and Amy Wickley of Overland Park, KS, two great-grandchildren Britt Clowdus (John) of Atlanta, GA, Michael Wickley of Ottawa, KS; and one great-great-granddaughter Scout Clowdus.
