MARY ELIZABETH MADDOX, 89 years of age, passed on February 27, 2011. Known to many as “Shorty” or “Libby”, she was one of the “South” girls of the Binghampton/Highland Heights area. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Gilbert Maddox; one of the “Maddox Brothers.” The South girls and Maddox brothers have left a loving family behind. She leaves two sons, Ron (Edie) of Greensboro, NC and Steve (Sharon) of Cordova, TN; one granddaughter, Jenny, a recent graduate of MSU-Starkville and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many wonderful friends at Grimes United Methodist Church and the many employees of local stores as she never met anyone she couldn’t start a conversation with. Always the talker; she had a wonderful memory of life growing up with her sisters and brother, two of which still survive, Lema Maddox of Harrisburg, AR and Frankie Giles of N. Richland Hills, TX. She also leaves a very special sister-in-law, Vada South of Mountain Home, AR. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 2 from 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue, with burial in Memorial Park.
