Mary Rose Hardin, 84, of Memphis, TN passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Kirby Pines Estates. She was born January 16, 1926 in Memphis to Hugh A Smith and Nell Louise Easterday Smith. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Hardin of Memphis; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Beverly Hardin of Memphis; son and daughter-in-law David and Denise Hardin of Germantown; daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Dan Ferrell of Franklin, TN; grandchildren Kenneth Lee Hardin (wife Jennifer), Scott Hardin (wife Brandi), Charlie Hardin, Shea Hardin (wife Catherine), Rachel Cook (husband Brandon) and Alex Ferrell; great grandchildren Stephanie Hardin, Savannah Hardin, Mikayla Hardin, Thomas Hardin, James Hardin, and Daniel Hardin. She is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Young of Phoenix, AZ and leaves her brother-in-law J. Terry Young. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mary Rose was a graduate of Southside High School and received her Masters in Education in Counseling and Guidance from Memphis State. She was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Memphis City School System for 23 years, as well as teaching piano for many years. She was the former pianist at Bellevue Baptist Church. She and her husband were currently members of Second Baptist Church, where she was instrumental in beginning the children’s music ministry and served as pianist and organist for 45 years. She was named Organist Emeritus upon her retirement from Second Baptist Church. In recent years, she continued to lead a Ladies Bible Study and play piano for various events at Kirby Pines. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. A family graveside service will be held on Friday, November 19 at 3:00 at Memorial Park Cemetery, with visitation at Second Baptist Church 4680 Walnut Grove Road from 5-8 Friday evening. A celebration of her life will be held on November 20 at 11:30 at Second Baptist Church, A brief visitation prior to the service will begin at 10:00. Mary Rose spent her life serving her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In her honor, the family requests memorials be sent to Second Baptist Church Missions or Music Ministry or to the Arthritis Foundation.
