Mary Virginia Pouncey Longmire Fowler, 101, left the cares of this world behind to join Jesus in Heaven on February 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents John Hescue Pouncey and Josie Sigler Pouncey, 8 siblings and one grandson.
Mary was born in Quito, Tennessee, and was married to Aaron Longmire of Millington for over 35 years. She was a loving wife to Aaron and faithfully cared for him until his death in 1973 after a 3 year battle with ALS.
She later married Douglas Fowler, Sr. of Dyersburg who died in 2008. Doug had one son, Douglas Fowler, Jr. of Dripping Springs, Texas.
Mary leaves her two daughters, Kay Longmire Reed (Roy) of Eads, and Martha Longmire Doyle (Don) of Germantown; 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as 1 great-great-grandchild to grieve her passing. Her family was her greatest joy and we will always remember our “Mimi” as a faithful wife, expert seamstress and quilter, and a gentle spirit who quietly loved and encouraged us.
She was the oldest surviving member of First Baptist Church of Millington. Mary lived at Kirby Pines Retirement Community the last 13 years of her life where she developed many friends who will miss her ready smile and sweet presence.
Gifts in memory of Mrs. Fowler may be offered to Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Quito, Tennessee, 38053 or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.
