Mary Margaret Flood Fitzgerald, 79, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on June 19, 2013. She was born on November 3, 1933, in Chicago, IL, to Hilda Pauline Tepffer Flood and Maurice Joseph Flood. She was a gifted artist and in 1951 she was awarded the B’Nai B’ Rith Outstanding Student Award for the city of Chicago. Her paintings were displayed in the Chicago Institute of Art. At the age of 20 she lost her beloved mother, father, and brother within a six month period. She lived her life continuing the love she had shared with them and made memories for those she continued to meet and love. Her laughter resonated from her soul, even through her last moments on her journey to heaven. She loved to dance, listen to music, and her family which was her most important love. She was a true woman of God walking with him, living his testimony and leaving a legacy of Love. She was a member of Decatur Trinity Church. Mary was preceded in death recently by her husband of 33 years Charles “Chuck” Fitzgerald, with whom she fell in love with the first time she heard him sing. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Maurice Flood and a sister Jean Marie Land. Mary leaves her children; Kathleen Marie Jacobson Helton M.D., Mary Jacqueline Jacobson Wilkins, Karen Lynne Jacobson Sampson, a stepdaughter Tay Fitzgerald, and her son Gerald William Jacobson. She also leaves her sisters Kathleen Morrow, Virginia Geer; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until service time at 3pm, on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Decatur Trinity Church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or charity of one’s choice.
