Mary Lynn Carter, 90 passed away August 24, 2014. Mary was a former member of National Ave. Baptist Church and a member of New Church Memphis. She and her husband, William were house parents for the Baptist Children’s Home and fostered children for many years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Zachary and Sadie Middleton, her loving husband, William A. Carter and brother, Boyd Middleton. She is survived by her daughters Peggy Hawkins (Roy), Gail Hornack (Fred); son, Bill Carter (Deborah); sisters, Lottie Harner Rowe, Shirley Palmertree; six grandchildren, Jennifer Paige, Dennis, Sarah, Mathew, Mary, Holly and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue, the family will receive friends prior to service beginning at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to New Church Memphis or Baptist Children’s Home.
