Mary C. Bodkin went home to be with her Lord on January 18, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Opal and Guy Cole, her brother, Jerry Wayne Cole, her husband, George D. Bodkin, and her son Timothy Lee Bodkin. She is survived by one son David Cole Bodkin (Jami), three grandchildren, D.J. Bodkin (Amy), Amanda Bodkin, and Christopher Lee Bodkin and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Elizabeth Bodkin, John David Bodkin and Ayden Cole Bodkin. She was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church, before that a long time member of Central Church where she had been very active in Women’s Ministry, teaching Precept Bible Studies at Central and in her home for many years. She also spent many hours in volunteer work at Central Church. She was retired from Carrington Jones Company as secretary and office manager. Her family was very important in her life. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother (Me Maw). Her hobbies were needle work, reading and sports. She played basketball in high school and won a scholarship, so she especially enjoyed watching basketball. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Kirby Woods Baptist Church. Visitation will take place at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue on Sunday, January 22 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 23 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Memphis Funeral Home Poplar. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh-LaGrange Road, Memphis.
