Marsha Elizabeth (Davis) Wakefield, 65, of Memphis, Tennessee, our dear friend, niece, sister, mother and daughter, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, December 4, 2017 after a brief illness. Marsha was born February 19, 1952 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Libby (Spicer) Davis and the late Jimmy Davis.
Marsha was married to Stephen D. Wakefield who passed away on October 30, 2005.
Marsha leaves her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Donny White of Germantown, Tennessee. She also leaves behind her mother Libby Davis, a brother and sister-in-law Terry and Jeannette Davis of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as two nephews Michael Davis of Collierville, Tennessee and Nathan Davis of Memphis, Tennessee. She is also survived by several aunts and cousins who live in Obion County, Tennessee. Marsha also leaves many dear friends behind who are too numerous to name.
Marsha graduated from Frayser High School and attended the University of Memphis studying personnel administration and later interior design. She had a long career in local government specializing in Human Resources and was assistant Division Director for the City of Memphis. She continued her career in administration and human resources by working for a prominent local medical practice. Marsha also pursued her life-long passion for antiques and interior design by operating her own shop, Ivy’s Antiques, for a number of years. Finally, she finished her career by stepping into the retail furniture business allowing her to utilize her considerable design talents for her many clients.
One of Marsha’s favorite Bible verses was from the New Testament Gospel of John, Chapter three, verse sixteen: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” These words, spoken by Jesus, are the expression of the greatest gift and promise ever bestowed: a promise available to all, a promise that was the foundation of Marsha’s strength and hope. Her desire and prayer was that all would come to the saving knowledge contained in this promise from Christ.
Visitation will be at Family Funeral Care located at 4925 Summer Avenue from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 7th with a graveside service at 12 o’clock noon on Friday, December 8th at Antioch Cemetery in Hornbeak, TN.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor her life-long love of dogs, the family asks that any memorials be made to Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, P.O. Box 30245, Memphis, TN 38118.
