MARILYN CAMPBELL GORDON, 71, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, on July 20, 2012. She was a lifelong Memphian, graduating from Central High School and Memphis State University. After teaching several years at Vollentine Elementary School, she went on to become a librarian at Memphis University School and St. Mary’s Episcopal School, where she retired after 28 years. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member of the Lamplighters Sunday school class, sang in the choir, and played the piano for many years. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim Gordon, and her daughters, Leigh (Chris) Wright, Nancy (Andy) Russell, as well as her four grandchildren, Allie and John Wright, and Morgan and Natalie Russell all of Franklin, TN; her mother, Ruth Campbell, of Memphis, her aunt, Frances Baker, of Bolivar, TN, as well as several cousins. Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 22. The service will be held at Wilson Chapel at CUMC at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23.
