Margo Lane Dockery was born June 19, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the first born to the late Robert and Florence Golden Lane. After her birthmother passed away at a young age, Margo’s father later remarried Florence Crape Lane, who became Margo and her siblings’ “Mother of the Heart”.
Margo professed her faith in Christ in her youth and was baptized at Union Tabernacle Church in St. Louis MO, under the leadership of the late Pastor Alexander Springfield.
Margo attended St. Louis Public Schools, and graduated from Hadley Technical High School. She then went on to attend Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee where she received her bachelor’s degree in English. Later, Margo earned her master’s degree in Education at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Margo married her college sweetheart, Odis N. Dockery. Together they shared many years of love and marriage. They were blessed with three children: Onica Marnel, Rory Jovantie and Ryan Nello.
Margo taught English in the Memphis City Schools district where she positively influenced students. She retired in January 2001.
Margo loved her family and always put them first. She was sweet, kind, nurturing, supportive, and encouraging. She was smart and an “out of the box” thinker. Margo was devoted, graceful and resilient. She instilled a love of books and movies in her children and raised them to be kind, often using her great sense of humor. Margo was famous for her cooking. She often entertained family and friends introducing them to new dishes, desserts and sharing recipes. She was a faithful, loving, and protective wife, mother, grandmother and sister who made her family feel that they could do anything.
Surrounded by her family, Margo peacefully transitioned this life on Monday, August 28th. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, her loving and devoted husband, Odis; her pride and joy, her children: Onica (Thomas), Rory and Ryan. Her precious grandchildren: Galen, Peyton, and Paxton; a loving sister and two brothers: Modest “Toni”, Malcolm and Barton; two brothers-in-law: Dave Terry and Flynn Payne; three sisters-in-law: Jimmie, Janie, and Verleen; two great aunts: Betty Williams and Narji Dunn; nine nieces, three nephews, along with a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
