Margaret A. White Fristick, 89, of Memphis, retired librarian for the Memphis City Schools, passed away on February 24, 2013. Born in Osborn, MS on March 13, 1923, and raised in the Delta community of Tutwiler, MS, Margaret was a proud alumna of the Mississippi State College for Women (the ”W”). She earned her graduate degree in library science from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, and then served as a librarian at the former Memphis State College. In 1966, Margaret joined the faculty at Hanley Elementary School, where she was librarian for 19 years. She was also the founder of St. Luke’s Methodist Church library program, sustaining her role as librarian for 44 years. Margaret was an avid patron of the arts, especially the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and local theater, as well as a loyal and energetic supporter of Memphis Tigers basketball. She cherished her family and many friends.
Private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. Visitation will be on Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where Margaret was a devoted member for over 54 years, followed by a service of celebration of Margaret’s life at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Margaret was the widow of T. Bradford White, Jr. and Thomas A. Fristick. She leaves two sons, T. Bradford White III (Ellen) and Sam A. White (Kathleen McElroy), of Memphis; four granddaughters, Ashlee White Shook and Cara Meaghan White of Rutland, VT; Rachel McElroy White of New Haven, CT; Ann Elizabeth Hanna White of Memphis, TN and one great granddaughter, Theresa Lucille Shook of Rutland, VT.
