He was preceded by son, Bill Wherry and grandson Lawson Wherry.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Wherry, son, Steve Wherry (Kay) grandchildren, Cam Wherry, Jeanie Wheeler, David Wherry, daughter, Cathy Laughlin (Loran), son Russell Wherry (Debi), grandchildren Kyle Wherry.
Macon Wherry was a Christian and faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, was married to his beloved wife Alice, for 72 years.
Macon was a devoted father of four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren and gracious father-in-law, lived life to the fullest and modeled kindness and compassion for 91 years.
He was a member at Covenant Baptist Church where he was dedicated to hospital visitation and his Bible Class.
Prior to Covenant he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Poplar Ave. Baptist Church and Colonial Baptist Church.
Macon was employed for 46 years as Manager of the Electrical Department of Tri-State Armature and Electrical Works and was a member of the IBEW 474.
He was a stellar athlete at Treadwell High School in Memphis where he was All-Memphis Quarterback and a Four Letter Athlete.
In retirement Macon and Alice enjoyed ballroom dancing, pickle ball, were both avid golfers and traveled with the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association.
Macon was a veteran of the US Air Force and served our country in the Korean War.
The family will have a private service on Friday, January 8 from 11am to 12pm at Memphis Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at 12pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Covenant Baptist Church.
