Lynn was an identical twin born on January 1, 1929, in Memphis, TN. He was the son of Lenny B. Britt and Hazel Vickery Britt.
Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Curtis Britt who passed away in 1985. She and Lynn met while attending Union Avenue Church of Christ and were married there October 1, 1954. They had two sons, Keith Britt of Birmingham, AL, and Quinn Britt of San Antonio, TX. He had 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In recent years, he enjoyed the company, love and support of his very special friend Carole Brawner. She and her family, including her daughters Judy Sanders and Betty Brawner, “adopted" him and considered him a part of their family. Carole unselfishly helped him maintain his independence in his latter years.
His twin brother, Lloyd P. Britt, preceded him in death in 2007. Every year on January 1, their families would gather to celebrate their birthday, a family tradition that continued even after Lloyd’s death, including his most recent birthday last January.
He was a graduate of the Tech High School Class of 1946 and of the University of Memphis (Memphis State Univeristy) Class of 1950. Lynn’s career included a variety of sales positions, beginning with being a sales representative for his father’s furniture business, Advance Furniture Company. His latter working years included an extended number of years in investment sales with UMIC and National Bank of Commerce, from where he eventually retired.
Lynn was a very active member in several Memphis area Churches of Christ over his lifetime. He was a deacon at the Union Avenue, Whitehaven and Wooddale Churches of Christ, and served as an elder for many years at Wooddale. He also attended Germantown Church of Christ and most recently was a member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ.
Lynn was a great student of the Bible, engaging in many hours of personal study and teaching Bible classes at church. He and Lloyd were accomplished pianists in their youth, and Lynn enjoyed playing the piano personally and occasionally in public over the years. He enjoyed traveling, especially to National Parks in the western U.S. He also travelled frequently to visit his sons and their families in Birmingham and San Antonio.
Flowers and memorials are not expected by the family, but if you so desire, please make a contribution to his final church home, Park Avenue Church of Christ, 5295 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 2 pm with the funeral service scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, March 7, at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue, with burial to follow immediately at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
