L C Murphy was born on October 10, 1928 in Oxford, Mississippi. He was the son of Mr. Selma Murphy and Mrs. Pauline McFarland Murphy. He and his 11 siblings (6 sisters and 5 brothers) grew up in a loving Christian home. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ at a young age with Smith Chapel CME Church in Abbeville, Mississippi..
He completed his High School education at Oxford Training School and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for four years during the Korean War. After returning from military duty, he married the love of his life, Lula Mae Murphy. They relocated to Memphis, Tennessee and he was employed with Unarco Steel as a foreman and served with the union until his retirement.
Mr. L C became a faithful servant of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, over 60 years ago, and remained faithful to its mission in serving God and His people. He was a devoted member of the J.A. Swayze Sunday School class, Mid-week Prayer service and honored as Deacon Emeritus after serving tirelessly on the Diaconate for over 40 years. As a dedicated Partner of the Manna Outreach Ministry, he helped deliver baskets of food to seniors in the community. L C enjoyed gardening and always shared his bounty of vegetables with neighbors, family and friends. He loved the Lord and shared his testimony of God’s Goodness with others. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. When giving advice on worldly troubles, he quickly reminded us to “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His Might” Ephesians 6:10
