Lawrence was raised by his grandparents, Fred & Annie Williams, whom he affectionately called "Daddy" and "Momma." Lawrence was born to Annie Mae Williams and Mount Vernon Tabb -- who he referred to as "Pops."
He was born and raised in Osceola, Arkansas. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1974 and joined the U.S. Army to proudly serve his country. After an honorable discharge, he eventually settled in Memphis, TN to continue his life as a family man and to also jumpstart his career.
Lawrence worked as an architect for Northrop Grumman. During his time as an architect, he designed many projects in the tri-state area including elements of the FedEx hub in Memphis and developed the design/operational layout for the USPS — a design function that is still being utilized across the country today.
Eventually shifting gears from being an architect to a contractor – Lawrence founded Solid Foundation Construction in 1997. Solid Foundation is a full-service construction company serving the commercial and residential markets in the Mid-South . He has been a pillar in the community as an architect and builder -- designing, rebuilding, and repairing many homes and businesses while also impacting the economy by providing hundreds of jobs to local Memphians through his company.
Finally, his contributions to the community through ministry, charity, and volunteering have been beyond remarkable. He regularly volunteered to help the elderly, at his own cost, in order to make necessary repairs to the home to provide them with a safe environment for living.
Lawrence has always been a lover of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, chess, fitness, golf, family, travel, jazz music, exploring new gadgets, being a member at Evangel Church, and a faithful supporter of the “Grace to You” media ministry of John MacArthur. He loved his children deeply and shared a special bond with his two grandchildren who lovingly refer to him as “Paw-Paw.”
He will always be loved and deeply missed.
A viewing for Lawrence will be held from 11:30 until The Celebration of Life begins at 12:00pm at Evangel Baptist Church, 262 N. Perkins Rd., Memphis, TN 38117. A committal service will follow on Friday, December 17 at 2:30pm in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene, Memphis, TN 38125.
