He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 3 years and was honorably discharged.
He proudly served and retired from the Memphis Fire Department after 30 years of dedicated service.
He followed his friend and mentor Captain Archie Cook where they helped in pioneering the Hazardous Materials Squad for the City of Memphis Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Lillian Smothers and his beloved brother, Dennis Smothers.
He is survived by 3 children: sons, David (Kasey) and Danny, daughter, Angie, and 4 grandchildren, Kayla, Cody, Karleigh, and Kinsey.
The family will receive friends at a visitation, on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and the funeral service celebrating his life and legacy will occur, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM, both at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A graveside committal service will immediately follow at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Bartlett, TN.
