Believing in salvation through Jesus Christ, James Larry Shipman, age 74, went to his heavenly home on February 12, 2019. He was born on November 14, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma, grew up in Kennett, MO and served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany. Later he was hired as one of the first employees of Morgan-Keegan and Company where he spent the majority of his career as an equity trader. During his 36 years there, Larry was a beloved colleague and friend to all who worked with him.
A member of Bellevue Baptist Church for over 25 years, he enjoyed serving in the nursery, Homebound Ministry and Life Group Leadership. He was a joy to family and friends with his outgoing personality, generosity, and love for others. Larry was everyone's "best friend" and "Papa" to many as well. He was preceded in death by his father, J. C. Shipman of Kennett, MO.
Survivors include: his mother, Peggy Shipman of Kennett, MO; his wife of 30 years, Amy Shipman, of Cordova, TN; daughter , Sheryl Stockton (Winsor) of Memphis, TN, son Cory Shipman (Angie) of Germantown, TN, son Ethan Argo (Eva) of Somerville, TN and son Seth Argo (Lindsay) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Jalen, Jake, Ava, Carter, Davis, Issy, Oscar, Wilson, Amelia, Maddie Kate, Millie and Will; four sisters: Sharon Webb of Florida, Charlotte Lindsey (James) of Arkansas, Carla Buckhannon (Carl) of Illinois, and Linda Davis of Missouri, many nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends from 10am until 12 noon with services to follow at 12noon on Friday, February 15th, at Bellevue Baptist Church 2000 Appling Rd, Cordova, TN 38016.
