Ladye Mable Bennett Bullard, 101, a lifelong resident of Memphis, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016. She was born June 18, 1914 in Memphis to the late Mr. Bonnie Miller Bennett and Dora Wheatley Bennett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years in 2004. She was also preceded by brothers Joseph (Pearl) and Macon (Martha) Bennett: and sisters, Mary Haley (Aubrey), Audrey, Tina Carter (John), Lois Ferguson (George), Lucille Dacus (Otto), Marguerite Caravalla (Joe), Annie Laurie Mitchell (Bond) and Jessye Reynolds (William). She is survived by sons Roger Aubrey (Carol) Bullard of Wilson, N.C. and Milton Reed (Joan) Bullard of Memphis; daughter, Ladye Jane Hilliard (Larry) of Easley, S.C.; grandsons Kenneth (Shannon) and Floyd (Rick); granddaughter, Brandy (Brad), great-granddaughters Riley and Jamie Bullard; great-grandsons Andrew, Barrett and Cole McMillin; stepgranddaughters Traci (Mike) and Cheri; stepgrandson David (Wendy); and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She is also survived by long time friends who provided unfailing care and support in her last years, Jim and Joy Coleman. Mable was a member of Union Avenue Baptist Church, attending regularly for many years, until declining health necessitated a move away from her home on S. Cox St. She loved to garden, watch the birds, and was brilliant with crochet and quilting. She had a great sense of humor, and delighted in playing practical jokes. She loved springtime and Christmas, and even in old age exuded a childlike joy when it snowed. She has now left her frail body behind and is reunited with her husband, brothers, and sisters, who we know have welcomed her with open arms and great joy. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 beginning at eleven o'clock in the morning at Memphis Funeral Home located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Entombment at Memorial Park will follow the service. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests donations in Ladye Mable's honor to Crossroads Hospice, 1669 Shelby Oaks Dr., Suite 106, Memphis, TN 38184. Memphis Funeral Home is serving the family. Online condolences and floral gifts may be left at www.memphisfuneralhome.net.
