at Kirby Pines Manor, Memphis, TN, at the age of ninety-seven.
She was born in Memphis on September 10, 1918, to her parents William Henry Dilatush and Katherine Cadwallader Dilatush. She graduated from Miss Hutchison's School, and she then continued her education at Wildcliff College in Swarthmore, PA, at which time she won the coveted May Queen title. She was married to the late Dr. Ben E. Everett, and aside from time spent elsewhere during her husband's military training and service in WW II, the couple resided in Memphis their entire married life.
She was a devoted wife and homemaker, excelling in her hospitality. While raising her family was the most important thing in her life, she also enjoyed cooking, knitting, and needlepoint work. She loved gardening and was a member of the Metropolitan Garden Club. Throughout her life Katherine was a willing volunteer and served actively in numerous service organizations including the Women's Exchange of Memphis, the Lena P. Hart Circle of Kings' Daughters and Sons, and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was a member of the Baptist Hospital Auxiliary and served as president of the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Alliance.
Faith in God was paramount to her, and she was an active member of her beloved Central Church where she volunteered frequently and developed many strong friendships especially later in her life.
She will be remembered for her faithfulness, her kind, friendly outgoing nature, and her abiding love for her family.
She is predeceased by her brother, Walter Dilatush of Millington, TN, and by her sister, Marianna Dilatush Williss of Memphis, TN. She is survived by her three children: Barbara Everett Bryan (Jim) of Greenville, SC; Dr. John Everett (Sally) of Jackson, TN; and Rev. William Everett (Linda) of New Albany, MS. Aside from her nieces and nephews she is also survived by her nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, all of whom were joys in her life.
Funeral arrangements are through Memphis Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Kirby Pines Chapel on Sunday, March 13th at 2:00 PM with a visitation to be held an hour prior.
