Julia Carney Lewis, 89, of Germantown, TN, died April 17, 2014. She was formerly of Gleason, TN, the daughter of the late Vida and Auzy Carney. She was a retired nurse with the VA Hospital in Memphis and a member of the retired VA Nurses Association. She was a member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church where she had been very active until recently and also had been an avid bridge player. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Taylor Lewis. She is survived by her son, Philip Carney Stewart (Elizabeth) of Collierville, her daughter, Debbie S. Leverne (Gil) of Senatobia, grandchildren, Gil Leverne, Jr., Melinda Henson, Christyna Stewart, Philip Carney Stewart, Jr., Annalise JonTay Stewart, Heather and Mike Fortenberry; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Julia Henson, Trace and Maggie Leverne, Callie Stewart, William and Hunter Tice and Bristol, Blakely and Becklyn Tice, Elsa Fortenberry; and stepsons, Jimmy, Larry and Charlie Lewis. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service.
