Joy Elizabeth Collier, 80, of Walls, Mississippi, passed away November 26, 2011 at her home with her family by her side. Born September 4, 1931 in Whitehaven, TN, she graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1950. The family will receive guests and friends on Tuesday, November 29 from 6PM – 8PM at Minor Memorial United Methodist Church, 6120 Goodman Road, Walls, Mississippi. Graveside services will be later in the week in the Rotunda at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Mrs. Collier was preceded in death by her brother Ross Lee Franks. She leaves behind her husband, who she met on a Sunday and married the very next Sunday, 61 years ago, Tom (Tonkie) Collier; children Tom (Siobhan) Collier, Mitch (Darlene Smith) Collier, and Patty (Alec) Stephens; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister Martha Wayne Reed; and brothers Jack & David Franks. She worked as a Kindergarten teacher at Davis YMCA in Whitehaven and later started and directed the Davis YMCA daycare. From there she became the assistant director of the day care for Registered Nurses at Baptist Central Hospital. She remained there until her retirement in 1993. During retirement she enjoyed building her Santa Claus collection and working with ceramics. She was a devoted member of Minor Memorial United Methodist Church.
