Joseph P. Thomas, 85, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 then went on to graduate from the University of TN in Civil Engineering in 1957. He worked as a Professional Engineer with licenses in the States of TN, AR, AL and WI and a Registered Land Surveyor in TN. Mr. Thomas established his own engineering company in 1970 in Memphis, and remained active in the company until 2000 when he retired from full time duties. He was the Past President of the Engineers Club of Memphis, member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Academic Fraternity, Chi Epsilon and was a Certified Fallout Shelter Analyst. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anne Thomas; three sons, Joseph Michael Thomas (Lisa), Stephen Carlyle Thomas (Lulu), Thomas Seab Thomas (Cristine); one sister, Mary Eula Minniehan; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. The family will receive guests Thursday, November 19 from 9 until the funeral service begins at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4195 Kirby-Whitten Parkway. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens on Germantown Parkway. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorials be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund.
