Joseph A. Malone, age 98, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away on May 8, 2021. Joe was born on August 29, 1922 to Fowler Reed Malone, Sr. and Lula Valentine Malone in Hernando, Mississippi. He grew up in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a radar technician, serving in London, England. He was awarded six Bronze Stars.
On December 31, 1950, he married Leoneda Nelms. They raised two children, a daughter and a son. He retired from Shelby County Trustees Office where he was an Assistant Trustee and Office Manager. He was a member of Waypoint Baptist Church (formerly Broadmoor). He was a Mason and a Shriner. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Walker Reed “Chip” Malone; granddaughter, Heather Joe Malone; great grandson, Rodney Stephen Vota Jr.; brother, Fowler Reed Malone, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Leoneda “Neda” Malone; daughter, Elizabeth Carolyn Ives (Albert) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Debra Lynn Vota (Rodney) of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Jessica Lee Erickson of Memphis, Tennessee; and nine great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee with graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Oakgrove Methodist Church Cemetery, 637 Poplar Corner, Fruitland, Tennessee.
